The Vilas Baroque Orchestra is a newly formed ensemble that showcases the upcoming generation of early music talent emerging from New York City. Our aim is to bring vibrant performances, inventive programming, and improvisation on period instruments to diverse audiences. We foster a collaborative chamber music approach to orchestral playing. We hope you can join us for our 2011-2012 season!

From Bohemian Lands: Works of Zelenka and Biber
Featuring singer Kathleen Flynn and baroque violinists Beth Wenstrom, Tatiana Daubek and Jude Ziliak

Born in the Kingdom of Bohemia, both Jan Dismas Zelenka (1679-1745) and Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber (1644-1704) were masterful baroque composers known for their daring compositional invention. In their third concert, Vilas Baroque juxtaposes Zelenka's dramatic Lamentations of Jeremiah for Maundy Thursday and Easter Eve with Biber's virtuosic instrumental pieces, including the monumental final solo Passacaglia from the Mystery Sonatas.
